Spearheaded by principal investigator Heather Margonari, DNP, FNP-BC, the project will be conducted in collaboration with Drs. Jacques Chelly and Shiv Goel.
The program, the first of its kind in Western Pennsylvania and among all UPMC hospitals, offers an alternative for surgical patients seeking to manage pain without opioids and addresses the numerous risks associated with perioperative opioid use.
The grant will support the study “Telemedicine-Delivered Digital Cognitive Behavioral Intervention to Decrease Postoperative Opioid Use Among Patients Undergoing Total Knee and Hip Arthroplasty” and will be led by principal investigators Drs. Jacques Chelly and Murat Kaynar.
The award will fund a randomized, placebo-controlled study to be conducted by Drs. Jacques Chelly and Senthil Sadhasivam that will assess the potential role of the NEUROCUPLE™ as an opioid-sparing approach for postoperative pain management, a significant public health issue.
