Department Research Seed Awards

Twice each year, Departmental Seed Award funds are made available to support new basic, translational, and clinical research projects.

Application Cycle and Timeline

Applications are accepted on April 15 or October 15 each year. If the submission deadline falls on a weekend, the application may be submitted on the following Monday.

Eligibility

  • Faculty members, mentored fellows, and residents (provided that their base specialty is anesthesiology) are eligible.
  • Trainees submitting projects as principal investigator must have a mentor with a primary academic or clinical faculty appointment in the Pitt/UPMC Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine
  • Pilot projects and projects by beginning investigators will be given priority. New investigators are strongly urged to collaborate or consult with more experienced investigators before planning a research project.
  • Funds may be requested for small equipment, consumable supplies, animals, etc. but not for stipends or salaries for fellows, technicians, or administrative support. The total amount requested should not exceed $10,000 for pilot projects or up to $25,000 for projects with some preliminary data and in preparation for future external funding proposals.
