More than 150 faculty, residents, families and staff gathered to celebrate the graduating Anesthesiology and Combined Pediatrics Anesthesiology residency classes.
Henry Paiste, MD, and Brendan Lynch, MD, anesthesiology residents in our department, were co-authors with Grace Lim, MD, MSc, MBA, of a chapter for Anesthesiology Clinics addressing management of parturients with opioid use disorder.
The 2026 graduating class of the anesthesiology residency program presented their senior systems‑based scholarly projects to department leadership on May 27 at the University Club, highlighting work focused on patient safety and quality improvement.
Our residents have been honored with the 2026 Chair’s Distinction in Anesthesiology Knowledge Awards for their exceptional scores on this year’s American Board of Anesthesiology In-Training Examination.
Proceeds from the event, organized by Anesthesiology Residency Junior Chiefs of Advocacy Drs. Morgan Zopp and David Brinton, benefited Light of Life Rescue Mission.
This year, UPMC Anesthesiology successfully matched 22 outstanding trainees, comprising 18 categorical residents, one advanced resident, two PANTHER Research Scholars, and one Combined Anesthesiology/Pediatrics resident.
Sharon Chabal is a 1980 graduate of the Pitt School of Nursing; Dr. Charles Chabal earned his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1982 and graduated from our Anesthesiology Residency Program in 1985.
