The 9th annual Walk for Children’s event was held at Schenley Park on Saturday, June 8, 2024. Families, staff, and community members had the chance to walk in person or participate virtually to support, celebrate, and fundraise for the patients at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Money raised through the walk supports pediatric programs not covered by insurance when a child is in the hospital.

More than 200 teams with a total of 3,500 walkers participated, including two teams from our anesthesiology departments at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital. Together, the two teams raised over $3,000, and the overall event collectively raised over $1 million towards achieving the healthy future every child deserves.

The CHP team, "Snooze Control," had about 40 participants and earned a top achievement badge. The “Magee Cares” group included CRNAs Serafina Bear, Clarice Johns, Donna Koleck, Laura Kridler, Connor McClellan, Julie Montgomery, and Courtney Thomas and their family members. Serafina was joined by her husband, their two youngest children, and her niece. “My family wanted to show their appreciation for the care Children's Hospital had provided my niece when she had a stroke when she was three,” said Serafina. “She’s one of the many children who have benefited from the resources that Children's hospital provides. I was proud of both my friends and family that carried on our mission to make a positive impact in our community!”
