Faculty, trainees, clinicians, researchers, and staff as well as their families and guests came together on Sunday, December 8, 2024, to celebrate the winter season at our department's Holiday Lights Party at Kennywood. The event drew more than 550 attendees, marking it a joyful and festive gathering for everyone who was able to join.
Kennywood’s Holiday Lights, recognized by USA Today this year as one of the nation’s top 10 best theme park holiday events, provided a magical setting with more than three million twinkling lights, over 25 rides and attractions, and festive entertainment. Guests got the chance to explore seasonal shows, model train displays, and a variety of immersive holiday experiences.
A dedicated pavilion offered attendees a warm and welcoming space to enjoy hors d’oeuvres, cookies, hot chocolate, coffee, and other delicious treats. Special appearances by Kennywood mascots and holiday characters added an extra layer of excitement and fun, especially for the children in the audience.
Throughout the evening, guests had the opportunity to explore the park and enjoy its signature attractions, including the Holiday Reflections Light Show - a dazzling display of synchronized lights set to holiday music around the Lagoon. Other highlights included the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer™ zone and a heartwarming reading of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas by Josh Getzoff, the Play-By-Play Voice of the Pittsburgh Penguins on SportsNet Pittsburgh.
Children delighted in the Kiddieland rides, such as Kenny’s Karousel, Crazy Trolley, and Turtle Chase, while thrill-seekers of all ages braved iconic roller coasters like the Racer and Jackrabbit.
The event created lasting memories for everyone who attended. Here's to continuing another wonderful tradition in our department: coming together to celebrate our successes, accomplishments, and the holiday season.
