Sigma's International Awards for Nursing Excellence recognize superior achievement in developing nurse leaders anywhere to improve healthcare everywhere by connected and empowered nurse leaders.
Richard Henker, who holds a faculty appointment as Professor in the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing, was awarded the Dorothy Garrigus Adams Award for Excellence in Service. The award celebrates voluntary service projects that address global health disparities, health care, the nursing profession, and Sigma. This prestigious accolade acknowledges his exceptional contributions and positive impact on global health disparity, particularly for active projects guiding policy changes with the ministries of health in Laos and Cambodia.
John O’Donnell, Professor and Chair of the Department of Nurse Anesthesia and Director of the Nurse Anesthesia Program at Pitt, was awarded the Lucie S. Kelly Mentor Award. This award recognizes the influence that role models and mentors in the nursing profession have on the lives and careers of others, and awardees and recognized for their impact of the career progression of nurse leaders and the nursing profession. John is recognized as a powerhouse in the field of nurse anesthesia and simulation and a sought-after mentor and collaborator with a national and international reputation for excellence.
Richard, John, and the other award winners will be honored during Sigma’s 47th Biennial Convention on Nov. 11-15 in San Antonio, Texas.
