We are proud to announce that five outstanding residents in our program - Dylan Bard, MD; John Driggers, MD; Wesley Ramirez, MD; Aaron Tarnasky, MD, MPH; and Tyler Weigel, MD - have been recognized with 2024 Chair’s Distinction in Anesthesiology Knowledge Awards. These honors celebrate their exceptional performance on the Anesthesia Knowledge Tests (AKT), placing them in the 95th percentile or higher nationally. The Interhospital Study Group develops and administers the AKT series, which evaluates anesthesiology knowledge at key milestones during residency training.

Drs. John Driggers and Tyler Weigel received the Chair’s Distinction Award for their top-tier performance on the AKT-1, administered early in residents’ CA-1 year. The AKT-1 measures baseline knowledge through a pre-test and tracks growth via a post-test following the initial weeks of clinical training. Both residents achieved scores in the 95th percentile nationally, showcasing their strong foundational understanding of anesthesiology concepts. The AKT-1 covers nine critical areas, such as pharmacology, airway management, anesthetic techniques, and physiology.

Drs. Dylan Bard, Wesley Ramirez, and Aaron Tarnasky were honored for their exceptional scores on the AKT-24, administered after 24 months of clinical training during the CA-2 year. This exam emphasizes subspecialty knowledge across areas such as pain medicine and cardiothoracic, neuro, and obstetric anesthesiology. Scoring in the 95th percentile nationally, these residents demonstrated advanced understanding and mastery of the field. The AKT-24 is designed to assess subspecialty expertise as residents prepare to enter their final year of training.

Congratulations to Drs. Bard, Driggers, Ramirez, Tarnasky, and Weigel for their exemplary performance and dedication to excellence in anesthesiology. These awards reflect their hard work, commitment, and potential to shape the future of our field.

Keep up the outstanding work!
