Presbyterian CRNAs Volunteer at Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank to Give Back This Holiday Season

group of UPMC CRNAs volunteering at a food bankA motivated group of CRNAs from UPMC Presbyterian Hospital spent their Saturday morning, on November 16, giving back to the community at the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank’s The Market in Duquesne, Pennsylvania. From morning to early afternoon, the team dedicated their time to helping neighbors in need ahead of the holiday season.

The Market, an onsite pantry that partners with Giant Eagle, provides eligible individuals and families with free grocery items. The UPMC Presbyterian CRNA team contributed by stocking shelves in the morning and assisting customers as they selected food for their households.

“It was a very fulfilling and positive experience,” said Jennifer Fleegle-Vitsas, MSN, CRNA, Assistant CRNA Director at UPMC Presbyterian. “Being able to support our neighbors during the holiday season is truly meaningful, and it felt great to be able to give back in such a direct way.”

The food bank’s work is especially critical during the holiday season, as many families face increased food insecurity. Volunteers from different organizations and community groups play a key role in ensuring that pantry shelves are well-stocked and that customers have a smooth shopping experience.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to be part of this initiative,” said KC Smith, DNP, CRNA, “It’s an experience we will cherish, and we look forward to more opportunities to volunteer and help those in need.”

The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank encourages local residents and organizations to continue supporting their mission, especially as demand increases during the colder months. You can learn more and find volunteering opportunities by visiting their website at pittsburghfoodbank.org.
