Residents from our department have come together to organize a special event with a purpose: a Cornhole Tournament to raise funds for the ASA-Lifebox Resident Challenge on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 12 p.m. The event will take place in North Park's Sesqui Pavilion located at 303 Pearce Mill Road, Allison Park, PA 15101.
The tournament promises to be an afternoon of fun and friendly competition, bringing together residents and attending physicians from across Pittsburgh and beyond. Participants will gather to play the classic Midwest game of cornhole, a sport that’s as much about skill as it is about enjoying each other’s company.
The contest entry fees are set at $50 per team for residents and $100 per team for attending physicians. Teams of two will compete in the tournament, with pizza and pop provided to keep the energy levels high. And for those who want to make the experience their own, it's BYOB and, while some cornhole boards and bags will be made available, participants are encouraged to bring their own if they have them.
But this event is about much more than just having fun. Every dollar raised will go directly to the ASA-Lifebox Resident Challenge, an initiative dedicated to improving global anesthesia safety. Lifebox, a nonprofit organization, has already made a tremendous impact by distributing over 35,000 pulse oximeters worldwide. Now, in partnership with Smile Train, they are on a mission to equip 350 operating rooms in Benin, Ethiopia, the Philippines, and Uganda with lifesaving capnographs.
By participating in this tournament, residents and attendings alike have the opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of patients around the world. The funds raised will contribute directly to this cause, ensuring that anesthetic care is safe and effective, no matter where it’s delivered.
Team sign-ups are now open, and spots are filling quickly. Residents and attendings alike are encouraged to register their teams and join in what promises to be a successful and impactful event. Let’s come together and make a difference in the world of anesthesia—one cornhole game at a time!
