On Saturday, June 3, CRNAs from UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital and the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine joined UPMC Children’s Hospital Foundation for the “Walk for Children’s” event. In the event, families, staff, and community members walked in support and in celebration of the patients at UPMC Children’s Hospital. The event featured inspiring stories and patient champion highlights and included both in-person and virtual options for participants.
CRNAs set up a team under the Magee Anesthesia Cares (MAC) committee to help raise money to fund care for children in need, especially those requiring extended and involved care. MAC’s team included Clarice Johns, DNP, CRNA; Connor McClellan, DNP, CRNA; Sera Bear MSN, CRNA; Tom Janczewski MSN, CRNA; and Donna Koleck, MSN, CRNA, as walkers, both in-person and virtually. The event was a success, with MAC’s team raising $570 in support of children receiving care. The event raised over $1,020,000 in total.
Serafina Bear, MSN, CRNA, reflected on MAC’s team after the event: “Around age 3, my niece Mabel had a stroke and, over the years, has experienced the many resources that the Children's Hospital provides. I am grateful for those who continue to provide care to our region's children and those who joined in the walk. Mabel was tickled to be honored by our group when we put her name on our signs.”
