Hudson Research Team Successful Again at ASA Practice Management 2019

The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Practice Management meeting is considered the premier business event for physician anesthesiologists and practice administrators and among ASA-sponsored events is second in attendance only to the ASA’s Annual Meeting. The 2019 ASA Practice Management meeting was held January 18-20 in Las Vegas, NV.

Five of our residents had abstracts accepted for poster presentation at the meeting and received departmental sponsorship to attend the event. Of the 28 abstracts accepted, seven were from our department. Further, two were selected for presentation in the FAER Poster Competition. The posters presented from our department were:

  • Riding the Winds of Change:  Evolution of an Anesthesiology Value Metrics Incentive Program within a Large Academic Medical System: Neal Shah, Evan Lebovitz, Jamie Artman, Sanford Littwin, Mark Hudson (2nd Place Best of Meeting Poster Presentation, FAER Award)
  • Effects on Operating Room Costs Due to Inefficient Scheduling: Neal Shah, Sara Straesser, Sanford Littwin (selected as one of the top eight posters, FAER Award Competition)
  • Variations in Costs Per Operating Room Hours Between Hospitals and Ambulatory Surgical Centers: Neal Shah, Aamir Zariwala, Evan Lebovitz, Sanford Littwin, Mark Hudson
  • Seasonal Variation in Operating Room Costs: Samuel Goldstein, Neal Shah, Sanford Littwin, Mark Hudson
  • Cost Effectiveness Analysis of Sugammadex Compared to Neostigmine for Reversal of Rocuronium-Induced Neuromuscular Blockade in a Large, Multi-Hospital Healthcare System: Evan Lebovitz, Neal Shah, Jamie Artman, Sanford Littwin, Mark Hudson

For the eighth year in a row, work presented by the “Hudson Research Team,” a group of residents, faculty, and CRNAs investigating healthcare business and management led by Mark E. Hudson, MD, MBA, won awards at the conference and garnered national attention. The above presentation by resident Dr. Neal Shah won the 2nd Place FAER Research Award, following up his 3rd place finish from last year.  

In addition to his sponsorship and mentorship for the residents participating at the meeting, Dr. Hudson also participated as a conference speaker, presenting the following:
