We are pleased to announce that Christopher Tyler Smith, MD, has been named Associate Program Director of the UPMC Obstetric (OB) Anesthesiology Fellowship Program in our department, effective July 1, 2024.
Dr. Smith is an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He also serves as the Director of OB Anesthesiology Education and Residency Site Director at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital.
Dr. Smith earned his medical degree from Northeast Ohio Medical University and completed his anesthesiology residency at UPMC. He completed his OB anesthesiology fellowship at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Smith is board-certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology and is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), the American Medical Association (AMA), the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology (SOAP), and the International Anesthesia Research Society (IARS).
In his new role as Associate Program Director of the OB Anesthesiology Fellowship Program, Dr. Smith will bring his expertise and leadership to further enhance the program. As a former resident of our program and a dedicated faculty member, he possesses invaluable insights into the strengths of our fellowship and areas for potential innovation.
We extend our most sincere gratitude to Ryan C. Romeo, MD, for his exceptional service as Associate Program Director of the OB Anesthesiology Fellowship Program over the past 11 years. Dr. Romeo will continue to contribute to the fellowship by serving as a mentor and consultant, ensuring a smooth transition.
