Dr. Trent Emerick Inducted into the Academy of Distinguished Medical Educators

Trent D. Emerick, MD, MBA, FASAThe University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine has welcomed Trent D. Emerick, MD, MBA, FASA, as a new member of its Academy of Distinguished Medical Educators (ADME). Dr. Emerick’s inclusion in this respected group recognizes his exceptional contributions to medical education and his dedication to fostering future leaders in healthcare.

Dr. Emerick serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine and Bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Within our department, he holds multiple key roles, including Program Director of the UPMC Pain Medicine Fellowship and Director of Quality Improvement and Innovation, Associate Chief, and Medical Director of the Division of Chronic Pain Management. A Certified Six Sigma Black Belt, Dr. Emerick is well-versed in process improvement methodologies, which he has effectively integrated into his educational and administrative duties.

The ADME is committed to recognizing and rewarding excellence in medical education. The Academy advances education through innovation, supports professional development, and promotes educational scholarship among faculty. Admission to the Academy is based on demonstrated excellence in two or more categories, such as direct teaching, curricular design, mentoring, educational leadership, or educational research. The ADME nomination and application process is rigorous and involves several layers of review. Membership is granted for a five-year term, with ongoing involvement in medical education required to maintain the appointment.

Dr. Emerick will be formally recognized as a new member of the ADME during the Med Ed Day Business Meeting on Friday, September 13, at 3:30 p.m. in Scaife Hall. He joins a distinguished group of department faculty who are also active ADME members, including Drs. Shawn Beaman, Scott Brancolini, William McIvor, David Metro, and Steven Orebaugh, as well as emeritus ADME members Drs. Michael Mangione and Rita Patel.
