Tetsuro Sakai, MD, PhD, MHA, FASA, has accepted an invitation to serve as Chair of the Association of University Anesthesiologists (AUA) Leadership Advisory Board (LAB) for a two-year term.
The LAB’s mission is to inspire and mentor AUA members to become leaders in academic anesthesiology. To fulfill this mission, the Board provides professional development opportunities for AUA members, inspires and empowers the next generation of anesthesiologists and academic anesthesiology leaders, works with the AUA’s Education Advisory Board and Scientific Advisory Board to establish an equitable and inclusive environment for AUA members, and engages in outreach to encourage diversity within the AUA membership. The LAB’s scope of responsibility is expanding; it will also soon also take on developing social media content and managing a mentoring program.
Dr. Sakai was invited to serve as Chair based on his track record of excellent service and leadership with the AUA, including on the LAB and the Mentoring Task Force, as well as his demonstrated dedication to academic anesthesiology, educational innovation, and scholarship. Dr. Sakai’s two-year term will begin on March 24, 2024.
In Dr. Sakai’s role as Chair of the LAB, he will lead and plan sessions for the AUA’s Annual Meeting, plan webinar content related to education, and provide material for the AUA’s newsletter. Dr. Sakai will also plan the 2026 AUA at University of Washington, Seattle in Seattle, WA during the final year of his two-year term.
