Congratulations to our regional anesthesiology fellow Niyant Jain, MD, who won the single spot for the 2022 ASRA Global Health Fellowship Rotation at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, Ghana in April 2022.
ASRA (American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine) founded the rotation to strengthen care in limited-resource settings and promote the growth of fellows training in regional anesthesiology/acute pain medicine and pain medicine as physicians and leaders in the global health community. The rotation is sponsored by ASRA Pain Medicine and provides funding of up to $5,000 USD for only one fellow per academic year.
KATH is a 1,200-bed tertiary hospital performing a large volume of extremity surgery. As part of the rotation, Dr. Jain will undergo regional anesthesia training as part of the KATH-Hospital for Special Surgery Global Regional Anesthesia Curricular Engagement (GRACE) Program and have the opportunity to teach providers via didactic lectures, simulation instruction using gel block mannequins/ultrasound volunteers, and hands-on training during patient care.
