Our resident Maxine Qiu, MD, has been honored with a “Pitt Med Professionalism Accolade” for praise submitted by a University of Pittsburgh medical student from the Fall 2023 Critical Care Clerkship. The accolade comes directly from a University of Pittsburgh medical student who, inspired by Dr. Qiu's exemplary professionalism, submitted the commendation through the Pitt Med PAIR program—an online platform that empowers Pitt medical students and graduate students to acknowledge individuals who exemplify exceptional professionalism and service on behalf of others.
The medical student expressed the following sentiments about Dr. Qiu:
“Even though we were covering a variety of complex patients, Max displayed a remarkable blend of skill and compassion. She recognized multiple learning opportunities for me to learn how to do ultrasound-guided IVs and guided me though the set up and follow through. She also gently guided me through the procedure when I felt like I was reaching an impasse, encouraging me to continue and to remain patient. Beyond just the clarity and simplification of procedures to me, she also went above and beyond for her own patients, checking on their wellbeing and visiting them when they had eventually transferred out of the ICU.”
Congratulations to Dr. Maxine Qiu for this well-deserved recognition, a testament to her exceptional skills, compassionate approach, and outstanding commitment to the medical profession.
