Congratulations to our obstetric anesthesiology fellow Kumiko Chino, MD, who was awarded funding from Haemonetics to study correlations between viscoelastic testing and traditional labs among parturients with thrombocytopenia. “The current consensus statement does not recommend routine use of point of care viscoelastic testing to determine the safety of neuraxial placement as there is not enough evidence,” explains Dr. Chino. “This study will use the TEG 6s device looking at parturients with platelet count of less than 70,000 x 106/L where neuraxial placement comes into debate.”
