We are happy to announce that Jeremy T. Kearns, MD, has been appointed Interim Director of our Acute Interventional Perioperative Pain Service (AIPPS), effective April 2, 2025.
Dr. Kearns earned his MD at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and completed his anesthesiology residency at the University of Washington in Seattle. He then completed a fellowship in regional anesthesia and acute pain medicine here at UPMC. Dr. Kearns joined our faculty in 2021 and is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor. Since 2022, he has served as Director of AIPPS at UPMC Shadyside.
In his role as Interim Director of AIPPS, Dr. Kearns will provide strategic, clinical, and administrative leadership to ensure the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based acute interventional perioperative pain care across our system. He will work closely with departmental and hospital leadership to develop clinical pathways, enhance efficiency and safety in perioperative pain protocols, and ensure compliance with institutional and regulatory standards. He will also oversee the coordination of educational activities for residents and fellows, support faculty development, participate in research initiatives, and contribute to the ongoing evolution of the division in alignment with our mission and strategic goals.
We extend our sincere thanks to Charles B. Luke, MD, MBA, FASAM, for his outstanding leadership and steadfast commitment as Director of AIPPS since 2018. Under Dr. Luke’s guidance, the service has grown in scope, significantly enhancing patient care and advancing the role of regional anesthesia and acute pain management across our system. Dr. Luke will continue to serve as Director of AIPPS at UPMC Passavant.
