Dr. Isabela Angelelli Wins Award in Pitt’s 2024 Sustainability in Healthcare Challenge

We are proud to share that Isabela (Cajiao) Angelelli, MD, Director of Clinical Operations for the Pediatric Sedation Service at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, has been named a winner in the University of Pittsburgh’s 2024 Sustainability in Healthcare Challenge.

Dr. Angelelli, a dedicated advocate for community and environmental health, is the co-founder and co-chair of Clinicians for Climate Action, an environmental activist group focused on reducing healthcare’s carbon footprint. Her team was one of four winning faculty groups awarded $40,000 to fund innovative sustainability initiatives.

Her team’s project, "Development of a Reusable Pulse Oximeter Prototype Functional in Clinical Settings," aims to reduce medical waste by designing a sustainable, clinically viable alternative to disposable pulse oximeters.

The Sustainability in Healthcare Challenge is Pitt’s first funding initiative dedicated to advancing sustainability in healthcare. Learn more about the competition here.
