Grace Lim, MD, MS, has been selected to participate in a panel discussion during the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine Dean's Summer Research Program Virtual Retreat. The session, “Unlocking the Potential: Nurturing Effective Mentor-Mentee Dynamics,” will delve into the intricacies of fostering productive relationships between mentors and mentees. By laying a foundation of clear expectations from the outset, students will gain invaluable insights into optimizing their interactions with mentors, thereby elevating both their performance and the quality of their professional connections.
Scheduled for Wednesday, June 5, 2024, from 11:00 to 11:45 AM, this virtual panel promises an enriching dialogue aimed to empower students to harness the full benefits of mentorship. Dr. Lim guides medical students within the Dean's Summer Research Program for the clinical research project “Perinatal Pain Management in Patients with Substance Use Disorder.” The investigation aims to alleviate the suffering of pregnant and postpartum women grappling with substance use disorder. Through a deep understanding of the nuances surrounding pain management, the ultimate objective is to refine treatment modalities tailored to the unique needs of these individuals, thus effecting tangible improvements in their quality of life.
Dr. Lim's contributions to mentorship in anesthesiology and obstetric (OB) anesthesiology throughout her career have been outstanding. She serves as a mentor for our T32 postdoctoral training program, "Research Training in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine." Her exceptional mentoring abilities have been acknowledged by various programs, including the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine’s Scholarly Research Project program, where she was lauded as an outstanding mentor. Dr. Lim has played a pivotal role in guiding numerous medical students through the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER) Medical Student Anesthesia Research Fellowship (MSARF) program. Notably, her involvement with the Society for OB Anesthesia and Perinatology (SOAP) Grants Committee was instrumental in the inception of the SOAP-FAER Mentored Research Training Grant (MRTG) Program. The initiative is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of independent OB anesthesiology and perinatology physician-scientists by equipping them with the essential skills and preliminary data necessary for embarking on successful independent research careers.
