Grace Lim, MD, MS, has been appointed by the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Executive Committee to serve as the ASA’s liaison to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health’s (AIM) Clinical and Community Advisory Group.
AIM stands as a vital national initiative dedicated to enhancing maternal safety and the quality of care for expectant mothers. It operates on a foundation of data-driven approaches, offering invaluable support to states such as Pennsylvania in their endeavors to implement evidence-based patient safety protocols. AIM also facilitates the tracking of these states' progress in improving maternal outcomes through the utilization of AIM's national data center. This platform allows for the seamless alignment of efforts at the national, state, and hospital levels, all geared towards the shared goal of enhancing overall maternal health outcomes.
“We have so much to contribute, and so much work to do to improve maternal and women's health,” says Dr. Lim. “I am humbled and excited to represent the anesthesiology community as we continue interdisciplinary work with organizations such as ACOG to advance innovations in maternal health.”
Notably, Dr. Lim's commitment to advancing maternal health with AIM extends beyond her new role as ASA's liaison. She has been a dedicated member of the Pennsylvania Perinatal Quality Collaborative AIM team since Pennsylvania joined AIM in 2020. As Chief of the UPMC Division of Obstetric & Women's Anesthesiology, she leads anesthesiology quality improvement and best practice implementations across the UPMC Women's Health Service Line and advances cutting edge research on maternal mental health and safety. Her expertise and passion for improving maternal health make her an invaluable asset to these critical initiatives.
