Dr. Daniela Damian Wins UPMC Children’s KIDS First Award

Daniela Damian holds her award surrounded by her anesthesiology colleagues at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh

We are pleased to share that Daniela Damian, MD, Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and Director of Pediatric Transplant Anesthesiology at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh (CHP), has been honored with the KIDS First Award by the Children's Employee Experience Committee.

This award recognizes Dr. Damian’s exemplary dedication to embodying the vision, mission, and values of UPMC Children's Hospital. Her compassion, patient-centered approach, and commitment to excellence make her a deserving recipient of this recognition.

From her nomination:

“I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Damien recently regarding a complex patient. In my nearly 20 years here at CHP, I can honestly say that I have never had an interaction with anyone from anesthesia that had been so impactful. This patient had been having a difficult hospital stay and was requiring multiple procedures over the next few days that would require anesthesia. Dr. Damien came in and spoke with the mother at the bedside. She spent an extreme amount of time discussing the patient and his medical history. By doing so, she acquired the mother's confidence and trust, which helped to completely ease the mother's fears. She then took it upon herself to coordinate with multiple specialty teams to make a plan that would work for the patient, the medical teams, and the mother. In addition, to ensure that everyone was on the same page for the next day (when she was not on service), she took the time and updated notes with specific instructions and conditions of the plan. The amount of accountability and genuine concern that Dr. Damien showed for this patient truly made a positive impact on this patient's care.”

Congratulations to Dr. Damian for this well-deserved honor!
