On October 31, Cynthia M. Wells, MD, took the stage alongside her colleagues from UPMC Jameson for the hospital's highly anticipated second annual Robotics Day. This event welcomed over 200 local high school and nursing students, offering them a rare glimpse into the cutting-edge robotics technology used at both UPMC Jameson and UPMC Horizon. The overarching goal of the day was to kindle the flames of inspiration and motivation in these students, encouraging them to contemplate futures in the ever-evolving field of medicine.
Dr. Wells conducted anesthesia treatment demonstrations for the students. Students also toured an ambulance, conducted a mock demonstration in an operating room, and learned about UPMC’s “Minutes Matter” initiative, a program that aims to prepare individuals to help in emergencies. The students also enjoyed demonstrations of the da Vinci Surgical System and Mako Robotic Arm-Assisted Surgery, as well as the Victoria Doll labor delivery recovery machine.
UPMC Jameson Robotics Day undoubtedly left a lasting impression on these aspiring young minds, helping to shape the future landscape of anesthesiology and the broader medical field.
