Andrew F. Meister, MD, has been appointed Medical Director of UPMC South Surgery Center in Bethel Park, effective July 1, 2024.
Dr. Meister brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this role. He earned his BS from the University of Wyoming and his MD from Creighton University School of Medicine and completed his anesthesiology residency at the University of Virginia. Before joining UPMC, Dr. Meister worked in various anesthesiology practices across Pittsburgh; Wheeling, WV; Wichita, KS; and Jacksonville, FL. Most recently, he has been an attending anesthesiologist at UPMC South Surgery Center and UPMC Mercy Pavilion.
As the new Medical Director of UPMC South Surgery Center, Dr. Meister will oversee the delivery of surgical care to all patients, supervise the administration of anesthesia, and ensure the regular review and evaluation of the quality and appropriateness of patient care. He will also play a key role in developing programs and services to meet the anesthetic needs of patients, maintaining a network of anesthesiology sub-specialists for consultative support, and implementing patient care policies and procedures in collaboration with Nursing, Administration, and the Medical Staff. Additionally, Dr. Meister will provide direct patient care as necessary, assist in the development of continuing education programs for the medical staff, and lead efforts to define and assess the cost-effectiveness of anesthesiology practices at the center.
We extend our deepest gratitude to Shiv K. Goel, MD, who has served as Medical Director since 2018. Dr. Goel will step down to focus on his role as Chief of Anesthesiology at UPMC Shadyside. We are incredibly thankful for his exemplary leadership and contributions during his tenure.
Congratulations to Dr. Meister on his new leadership role!
