The American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) presented Andrew Herlich, DMD, MD, FAAP, FASA, with a prestigious award at their 2023 annual meeting in San Diego on September 20. Dr. Herlich received the Distinguished Service Award for Non-Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (OMSs), which recognizes non-OMS fellows and members who have made a significant contribution to the OMS specialty and community.
Dr. Herlich has served as the American Society of Anesthesiologists Liaison to AAOMS and on the AAOMS Committee on Anesthesia for several years, playing a valuable role as developer and educator in some of AAOMS's early simulation program projects. Before retiring in 2019, he educated countless OMS residents as a staff pediatric anesthesiologist at UPMC. Dr. Herlich also played a prominent role in protecting the ability of OMS residents to rotate on medical anesthesiology throughout the UPMC health system.
Dr. Herlich continues to lecture residents on a weekly basis at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine, providing them with anesthesiology education and ambulatory clinical experiences. He is currently serving as Interim Chair of the school’s Department of Dental Anesthesiology.
Congratulations, Dr. Herlich!
