Andrea Ibarra, MD, MS, was recently elected as an Associate Member of the Association of University Anesthesiologists (AUA), a professional organization dedicated to fostering mentorship, diversity, inclusivity, and professional growth within anesthesiology.
Dr. Ibarra's nomination and election to the AUA underscores her commitment to advancing excellence in academic anesthesiology. As an Associate Member of the AUA, Dr. Ibarra joins an exclusive cohort of distinguished professionals acknowledged by their peers for their exceptional achievements in teaching, administration, and research. This accomplishment reflects not only her individual prowess but also her dedication to the broader goals of the AUA.
Dr. Ibarra is currently an Assistant Professor and Chair of our Anesthesiology Residency Program’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Acceptance (IDEA) Committee. She conducts research focused on perioperative and perinatal outcomes among those with cardiovascular disease, including how hypertensive disorders of pregnancy affect cognition and the role of disparities in these outcomes. She has received research funding from the ASA Professional Diversity Mentoring Grant Program, the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology/Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research, the National Institutes of Health, and the Winn Diversity in Clinical Trials Award Program.
