We are proud to announce that Ajay D. Wasan, MD, MSc, MA, Vice Chair for Pain Medicine, Professor of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine and Psychiatry, and Director of our Center for Innovation in Pain Care and Chronic Pain Research Program, has been invited to serve on the National Advisory Council for Complementary and Integrative Health (NACCIH). His term will extend through July 31, 2028.
This appointment underscores Dr. Wasan’s significant contributions to pain medicine and research and his dedication to advancing complementary and integrative health.
About the NACCIH
The NACCIH advises and consults with the Secretary of Health and Human Services and the Director of the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) on matters relating to the Center’s activities and policies. The Council's responsibilities include:
Recommending research and training projects for funding that show promise in expanding human knowledge.
Reviewing applications for grants and cooperative agreements.
Providing insights on research priorities and emerging trends in complementary and integrative health.
Ensuring diversity and inclusivity in clinical research by monitoring the inclusion of women and minority groups in National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded studies.
The Council also plays a key role in preparing triennial reports for Congress and conducting meetings open to the public, fostering transparency and engagement in its decision-making processes.
Dr. Wasan’s expertise and leadership in pain medicine, his extensive research portfolio, and his commitment to patient-centered care make him uniquely qualified to contribute to the NACCIH’s mission of advancing innovative and evidence-based approaches to health care.
