Department Work at 2025 Pediatric Anesthesiology Meetings

 

Our faculty and trainees will present the following work at the 2025 pediatric anesthesiology meetings in Orlando, FL – the Society for Pediatric Pain Medicine (SPPM) and Congenital Cardiac Anesthesia Society (CCAS) meetings on Thursday, March 27 and the Society of Pediatric Anesthesia (SPA) - American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) meeting, which will take place from Friday March 28 - Sunday March 30. 

Tyler Augi

Tyler Augi (medical student) will present the posters “Effectiveness and Complications of Intervertebral Epidural vs. Caudal Epidural Catheters in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Infants: A Retrospective Chart Review” (authors: Augi T, Parry S, Soliman D, Lavage D, Licata L, Turula H, Cladis F, Visoiu M) at both SPA-AAP and SPMM and “Retrospective Analysis of Epidural Catheter Impact on Post-Surgical Extubation, Opioid Use, Pain, and Sedation Scores in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Infants” (authors: Augi T, Parry S, Soliman D, Lavage D, Licata L, Turula H, Visoiu M) at SPMM.

 

Madeline Bireley, MD

Madeline Bireley, MD, PGY-4 Resident, Combined Anesthesiology-Pediatrics Program, will present the poster “PDA Stent Palliation in a Neonate with Tetralogy of Fallot with Atrioventricular Septal Defect and Complete Tracheal Ring” (authors: Bireley M, Goldstein B, Blasiole B) at CCAS on Thursday, March 27, 5:15-6:30 PM and at SPA-AAP on Saturday, March 29, 11:00 AM-12:30 PM.

 

Franklyn P. Cladis, MD, MBA, FAAP, Professor and Health Sciences Endowed Chair in Pediatric Anesthesiology and Chief Anesthesiologist, UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, will moderate a SPA-AAP poster session on Saturday, March 29, 11:00-12:30 PM. 

Dr. Cladis will also present “The Ethical Responsibilities of a Pediatric Anesthesiologist” at SPA-AAP on Sunday, March 30, 10:40-10:55 AM.

 

Daniela Damian, MD

Daniela Damian, MD, Assistant Professor and Director of Pediatric Transplant Anesthesiology at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, will participate in the Medical Student Pediatric Airway Workshop at SPA-AAP on Saturday, March 29, 2:45-3:45 PM.

Dr. Damian will also present the poster “Cost Analysis of Sugammadex Usage Following the Implementation of Clinical Guidelines” (authors: Licata S, Damian D, Soliman D, Cladis F) at SPA-AAP on Saturday, March 29, 11:00 AM-12:30 PM.

 

Jazib Hassan, MBBS

Jazib Hassan, MBBS, Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellow, will present the case report “Aggressive Course of MoyaMoya Disease in 11-Year-Old Child with MT-TL1 Mutation” (authors: Hassan J, Tran L) at SPA-AAP on Saturday, March 29, 11:00 AM-12:30 PM.

 

Devan Kowdley

Devan Kowdley, medical student, will present the poster “Perioperative Anesthesia Management of Pediatric Liver Transplant in the Setting of Propionic Acidemia: A Multi-Center Case Series” (authors: Kowdley D, Parsons E, Hunyady A, Soltys K, Damian D) at SPA-AAP on Saturday March 29, 6:15-7:15 AM.

 

Arnav Mehra

Arnav Mehra, medical student, will present the poster “Cardiac Optimization Prior to Liver Transplantation: Anesthetic Management and Outcome of a Patient with Down Syndrome, Biliary Atresia, and Atrioventricular Septal Defect” (authors: Mehra A, Tran L, Follansbee C, Nguyen K) at SPA-AAP on Saturday March 29, 11:00-12:30 PM.

 

Ryan Nelson, MD, MS

Ryan Nelson, MD, MS, PGY-3 Resident, Combined Anesthesiology-Pediatrics Program, will present the poster “Liposomal Bupivacaine for Bilateral Ultrasound-Guided Rectus Sheath Blocks in Two Pediatric Patients Undergoing Laparoscopic Ileocecectomy” (authors: Nelson R, Waltz P, Visoiu M) at SPMM.

 

Lu'ay Nubani, MD

Lu'ay Nubani, MD, Clinical Assistant Professor, will participate in the SPA-AAP workshop “Ultrasound-Guided Caudal Block, Single Injections, and with Catheter Advanced Cephalad at the Lumbar or Thoracic Spine Level” on Saturday, March 29, 3:00-6:00 PM.

 

Dahye Park, MD

Dahye Park, MD, Regional Anesthesiology Fellow, will give the oral presentation “Investigating Urinary Complications in Infant Surgical Patients with Indwelling Epidural Catheters” (authors: Park D, Simonds E, Augi T, Parry S, Licata S, Turula H, Soliman D, Visoiu M) at SPA-AAP on Saturday, March 29 at 10:20 AM. This oral presentation is being recognized with the Bosenberg Regional Anesthesia Award. She will also present the poster for this project (same title and authors) at SPMM on Thursday, March 27, 4:30-5:45 PM.

 

Jacob Pickle, MD, MBA, PGY-5 Resident, Combined Anesthesiology-Pediatrics Program, will present the poster “Comparative Study on Dressing Modalities for Securing Nerve Block Catheters in Pediatric Patients: A Retrospective Analysis of Efficacy and Complications” (authors: Pickle J, Murtha L, Licata S, Lavage D, Visoiu M) at both SPA-AAP and SPMM.

 

Taylor Thompson, MD

Taylor Thompson, MD, Associate Chief Resident, PGY-4, will present the poster “Perioperative Considerations and Anesthetic Management in an Infant with Double Aortic Arch Undergoing Aortic Translocation” (authors: Thompson T, Stollings L) at CCAS on Thursday, March 27, 5:15-6:30 PM and at SPA-AAP on Saturday, March 29, 6:15-7:15 AM.

 

Lieu Tran, MD

Lieu Tran, MD, Assistant Professor and Program Director, Combined Pediatrics-Anesthesiology Residency, will coordinate the SPA-AAP Resident Session “Resident Roundtable: Transitioning to Attending - Everything I Wish I Knew Before I Started” on Saturday, March 29, 2:45-3:45 PM.

 

Mihaela Visoiu, MD

Mihaela Visoiu, MD, Associate Professor and Site Director, Division of Acute Pain and Regional Anesthesiology, UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, will moderate “PBLD TABLE 4-A: Unexpected Aftermath: Brachial Plexus Injury Following General Anesthesia,” at SPA-AAP on Friday, March 28, 4:55-6:15 PM.    

Dr. Visoiu will also participate in the SPA-AAP workshop “Ultrasound-Guided Caudal Block, Single Injections, and with Catheter Advanced Cephalad at the Lumbar or Thoracic Spine Level” on Saturday, March 29, 3:00-6:00 PM.

“Use of Liposomal Bupivacaine for Supraclavicular Nerve Block in a Pediatric Patient on Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy with Bupivacaine Level Monitoring- A Case Report” (authors: Visoiu M, Augi T, Sadhasivam S), SPMM.
 

Joseph Vitale, MD

Joseph Vitale, MD, PGY-4 Resident, will present the poster “Intraoperative Vasopressin Use and Post-Operative Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) in Patients Undergoing Fontan Procedure” (authors: Vitale, Genovese B, Adams P) at CCAS on Thursday, March 27, 5:15-6:30 PM and at SPA-AAP on Saturday, March 29, 11:00 AM-12:30 PM.

He will also present the SPA-AAP poster “Anesthetic Management of the Pregnant Patient with Coarctation of the Aorta” (authors: Vitale J, Nguyen K) on Saturday, March 29, 6:15-7:15 AM.

Gregory Williamson, MD

Gregory Williamson, MD, Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellow, will present the poster “Use of Pectoralis II and Modified Pectoralis II Nerve Blocks for Pediatric Axillary Contracture Release, Z-plasty Surgeries in Zambia” (authors: Williamson G, Deis A, Sutherland M) at SPA-AAP on Saturday, March 29, 11:00 AM-12:30 PM.
