Department to Present Work at PainConnect 2025

Our faculty and trainees will present the following work at PainConnect 2025, presented by the American Academy of Pain Medicine (AAPM), which will be held April 2-6, 2025, in Austin, Texas.

 

Trent D. Emerick, MD, MBA, FASA

Trent D. Emerick, MD, MBA, FASA, Associate Professor and Program Director of our Pain Medicine Fellowship, is serving on the Planning Committee for the “Fundamentals of Pain Course” on Thursday, April 3.

Dr. Emerick will also present “Buprenorphine and Treating Pain” on Thursday, April 3, 9:00-9:25 AM.

He is also one of the presenters for “Pain Care for the Substance Use Disorder Patient: Tricks and Pearls” on Friday, April 4, 2:30-3:00 PM.

Dr. Emerick will be recognized with two awards at the meeting – the AAPM Distinguished Service Award and the AAPM Presidential Commendation – at the Awards Presentation at Gala-Austin Grand Ballroom Foyer (6th Floor).

Elizabeth Leimer, MD, PhD

Elizabeth Leimer, MD, PhD, Pain Medicine Fellow, will present the poster “Identifying New-Onset Nociplastic Pain in Patients with Low Back Pain” (authors: Elizabeth Leimer, MD, PhD; Ridhi Choragudi, BS; Maya Maurer, MS; Rebecca DeSensi, MS; Ajay D. Wasan, MD, MSc, MA; and Benedict Alter, MD, PhD) on Saturday, April 5, 11:45-11:50 AM, TV 2 in the Exhibit Hall.

 

William Schultze, DO

William Schultze, DO, PGY-2 Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Resident, will present the poster “Transversus Abdominis Plane Blocks for Chronic Abdominal Pain: Patient Factors Associated with Treatment Response” (authors: Will Schultze, DO; Maya Maurer, MS; Rebecca DeSensi, MS; Ajay D. Ajay D. Wasan, MD, MSc, MA

Ajay D. Wasan, MD, MSc, MA, Vice Chair for Pain Medicine, Professor of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine and Psychiatry, and Director of our Center for Innovation in Pain Care and Chronic Pain Research Program, will present the poster “Comparative Effectiveness of Transforaminal vs. Interlaminar Lumbar Epidural Steroid Injections” by authors Sean McDermott, MD; Benedict Alter, MD, PhD; Rebecca DeSensi, MS; and Ajay D. Wasan, MD, MSc, MA. This work has won recognition as on the meeting’s top six abstracts.

Dr. Wasan will be recognized with the AAPM Presidential Commendation – at the Awards Presentation at Gala-Austin Grand Ballroom Foyer (6th Floor).
