Department Launches Novel Resident Innovation Track For Clinician-Inventors

"An advertisement for the PITT Innovation Track"We recently launched the new Pittsburgh Innovation and Technology (PIT) Track to connect residents with innovation support and graduate-level credentials without extending training for the incoming 2022 residency cohort. The PIT Track combines executive-style, multidisciplinary, team-based coursework with up to six months of dedicated research time - all integrated into our top-ranked, four-year Anesthesiology Residency Program. Successful PIT Track scholars will achieve a Graduate Certificate in Medical Device Innovation with the option to extend to a master’s degree in Medical Device Engineering from the Center for Medical Innovation at the University of Pittsburgh.

The PIT Track is a component of our newly-developed Anesthesiology Innovation Pathway, an initiative developed to connect clinicians directly with the robust innovation ecosystem within the City of Pittsburgh. Other pathway offerings include dedicated resident rotations, a perioperative medicine and innovation fellowship, and faculty-level options for innovation education and/or project support. From developing modern CPR to instituting the first intensive care unit, our department remains a leader in clinical innovation.
