This year marks numerous leadership changes in our department. Congratulations to all of our newly appointed leaders and thank you to all of our excellent directors who are stepping down after long years of dedicated service in those roles.
New Fellowship Directors
Michael Boisen, MD, FASE was appointed Program Director of our Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellowship Program. Dr. Boisen previously served as the program’s Associate Program Director. Erin A. Sullivan, MD, FASA stepped down as Director after serving in the role for almost 18 years and now serves as Associate Program Director.
After starting our our Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain Medicine Fellowship and serving as its Program Director for over 14 years, Jacques E. Chelly, MD, PhD, MBA stepped down from the role and “passed the torch” to Nicholas J. Schott, MD, who has served as Associate Director of the fellowship since 2017. On September 1, Nicole M. Verdecchia, MD was named the fellowship's new Associate Program Director.
Trent D. Emerick, MD, MBA took the reins as Program Director or our Pain Medicine Fellowship as Scott A. Brancolini, MD, MPH steps into the role of Associate Director of the fellowship after serving as Director since 2014. Dr. Emerick served as Co-Associate Program Director since 2018.
New Residency Program Associate Program Director
Elizabeth Ungerman, MD began her role as Associate Program Director of our Anesthesiology Residency Program, joining Phillip Adams, DO who was also appointed Associate Program Director last year. Drs. Ungerman and Adams assumed the roles from former Associate Program Directors Patrick Forte, MD and Tetsuro Sakai, MD, PhD, MHA, FASA. Dr. Ungerman is also the Residency Site Academic Director at UPMC Presbyterian.
New Clinical Leaders
Bryce Bernard, MD was appointed Clinical Director, Operating Room at UPMC Mercy.
Sean A. DeChancie, DO was appointed Assistant Site Chief of UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.
David S. Glover, DO was appointed Site Director, Division of Acute Pain and Regional Anesthesia at UPMC Presbyterian
Derek Reckard, MSN, CRNA was appointed Assistant CRNA Clinical Director at UPMC Presbyterian/Montefiore Hospitals, taking over for Debra M. Weimer, MSN, CRNA when she retired from our department on July 8 after 15 years in the role and after 40 years of service at UPMC.
