Originally from Colombia, South America, where she attended Medical School at the Javeriana University School of Medicine, Dr. Angelelli completed her pediatric residency training at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh (CHP). She has experience in emergency medicine and more than 17 years of experience in pediatric sedation. She is the Director of Clinical Operations for the CHP Pediatric Sedation Service.
She is also a community and environmental health advocate. The current focus of her work in the environmental world includes trees as a public health intervention and efforts to decrease the carbon footprint of healthcare systems through practical, easy-to-adopt, and highly impactful interventions.
She is a board member of Tree Pittsburgh, and she brought the “One Tree Per Child” program to the city. More than 3,000 children in our region have planted more than 3,000 trees through this initiative.
Isabela is a graduate of the Harvard program Climate Health Organizing Fellows and is Co-Founder and Co-Chair of Clinicians for Climate Action, a group of clinicians leading the transition to net zero emissions of UPMC, the largest employer in the state of Pennsylvania. This work received an American Climate Leadership Award in 2024.
Dr. Angelelli is the CHP Environmental Quality Team champion and Green Team Director, serves on the UPMC Environmental Initiatives Committee, and is Assistant Director for Employee Engagement at the UPMC Center for Sustainability.
Her presentations at professional organizations meetings, academic conferences, and healthcare sustainability conferences focus on highly impactful, simple initiatives to decrease the carbon footprint and decrease waste and environmental contamination derived from the practice of medicine.
