We regret to share the sad news that we lost a cherished former member of our clinical team. Dr. Susan Rooksby, a pediatric anesthesiologist who worked in our department from 2012 through 2018 at both UPMC Mercy and UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, passed away on July 17, 2022 after a valiant, decade-long battle with breast cancer. She died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving husband and family, only 12 days shy of what would have been her 41st birthday.
Susan Tuck Rooksby, MD, earned her BA in women’s studies at The College of William and Mary and completed her MD and anesthesiology residency at Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University. After completing a pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, she joined the faculty of our department. After leaving UPMC in 2018, she moved with her family to Spokane, Washington and worked at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center until 2021. Dr. Rooksby was a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) and the Society of Pediatric Anesthesiologists (SPA) and presented at several ASA and SPA annual meetings.
We convey our deepest sympathy and condolences to Dr. Rooksby’s family, friends, and colleagues.
She is survived by her husband Jacob, her daughter Mary, her parents, two sisters, and an extended family who remember her fondly. A funeral and reception is being planned in Spokane, Washington on Saturday, September 3rd at 11 am (details forthcoming). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Susan Tuck Rooksby Memorial Foundation, via Venmo (@SusanRooksbyMemorialFoundation) or by check to 3428 S Lincoln Dr., Spokane, WA 99203.
