Department Celebrates 2019 Physician Anesthesiologists Week

"A cake with the words Happy Physician Anesthesiologists Week and decorated with baloons"

January 27-February 2, 2019 marks the fifth annual Physician Anesthesiologists Week, a yearly event initiated by the American Society for Anesthesiologists to spread awareness about the critical role physician anesthesiologists play in saving lives.

Every January/February, our nurse anesthetists and physician anesthesiologists celebrate their respective anesthesia professions, with National CRNA Week taking place the week prior to Physician Anesthesiologists Week. For the second year in a row, our physicians and CRNAs united to celebrate both weeks by supporting a charity event to raise awareness of the opioid epidemic and raise funds for Light of Life Rescue Mission, an organization that helps homeless people and provides services to people who often suffer from addiction.

Also, the CRNAs at UPMC Presbyterian brought cake to their break rooms to extend their appreciation to their anesthesiologist colleagues. As one Presby CRNA stated, “we are fortunate to be teamed with such a talented group who display clinical expertise, academic achievements, and teamwork on a daily basis.”
