Anesthesia Tech Week is an opportunity to recognize the vital contributions of anesthesia technicians to patient care and safety. An often-overlooked profession, anesthesia technicians are integral members of the anesthesia care team, and we are proud to work alongside these dedicated healthcare professionals at UPMC. This year, the celebration begins with Anesthesia Tech Day on Monday, March 31, 2025, and continues through Friday, April 4, 2025.
Anesthesia technicians play a critical role in the operating room (OR), working under the supervision of anesthesiologists and certified registered nurse anesthetists to prepare and maintain anesthesia equipment, assist with procedures, and monitor patients. Although their work often happens behind the scenes, it is indispensable to the smooth functioning of surgical teams and, most importantly, to patient safety.
This year, we are highlighting anesthesia technicians to break through silos and feature the amazing people working to support patient care behind the scenes.
In celebration of Anesthesia Tech Week, we will highlight the dedication and excellence of three outstanding UPMC anesthesia technicians through a special spotlight series:
- Mithila Bedekar, UPMC Presbyterian
- Mary Grace Kalon, UPMC East
- Ashley McCorkle, UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital
Stay tuned to learn more about their work and the impact they make each day in the OR.
