The inaugural St. Thomas Anesthesiology Legal Education (ALE) Symposium held March 8-11, 2017 was a huge success, bringing together a combination of 50 anesthesiologists, lawyers, and CRNAs from around the country. Directed by Raymond M. Planinsic, MD and co-directed by David G. Metro, MD, Richard Kidwell, JD (Senior Associate Counsel & Vice President, Risk Management, UPMC), and Daniel Sullivan, MD, JD, MBA, the symposium was a first-of-its-kind program designed to improve patient safety, increase patient/provider communication, and better inform attendees on issues related to ethics and malpractice. The program culminated with a very powerful and educational mock trial. Look here for news as next year’s event is planned!
